We are very proud to present the 3rd Winterschool in Austria! In the heart of Europe, up in the mountains you’ll have the opportunity to learn the most important topics in orthopaedics. The Winterschool will be held from 31st of January till 4th of February 2011 in Stolzalpe/Murau, Austria. After this one-week course in “Practical Orthopaedics” you have the possibility to do a clerkship in orthopaedics for either one OR two weeks.

General Information
The Winterschool „Practical Orthopaedics“ has been successfully performed for medical students from Austria during the last ten years. This will be the third English course with international and Austrian students together. The Stolzalpe Hospital is one of the largest Orthopaedic Departments in Austria and has developed specialization in eight different teams. It is well known as European Reference Centre for Hip and Knee Surgery and Paediatric Orthopaedics.
Content
The one week course is based on lectures, hands-on-workshops and bedside teaching. The lectures presented by the different teams cover most of the important topics in orthopaedics including conservative orthopaedics, pain management, anaesthesia and management of chronic pain patients. The practical-hands-on includes knee arthroscopy on a model, plating and nailing, sewing and casting. Bedside teaching is performed with clinical examination of the different joints, patient’s presentation, joining the outpatient department and the OR.
Goal
Learning the basic knowledge of the most important musculoskeletal diseases (excluding tumours), understanding for diagnostic procedures, conservative and surgical pathways including new developments and future perspectives
Requirements
• Medical student
• Passed exams in anatomy, surgery and eventually orthopaedics
• Good english language skills
Examination
Final oral test with practical examples and certificate
Clerkship
After the Winterschool you have the opportunity to do a clerkship for either one OR two weeks in the field of orthopaedics.
The costs for the clerkship will be 8,00 EUR per day.
IMPORTANT: Insurance
Don't forget to get an insurance in case of illness, accident and - if you take part in the clerkship - a liability insurance! You have to show it after your arrival.

From Wien Meidling (Vienna) you take the train to Murau-Stolzalpe which lasts between 3,5 and 4 hours and

Selection criterion and application documents:
1. Sent before deadline to winterschool@amsa.at
2. English knowledge
3. Progress in your studies (surgery and optionally orthopaedics in consideration of additional training e.g. physiotherapy
4. Clerkships(orthopaedics or trauma surgery)
5. country of origin, because we want a mixed crowd;-) (max. 2 participants per country)
6. Letter of motivation
7. Curriculum vitae (including name, address, email, phone number and nationality)
8. Proof of studies (official letter of your medical college/university stating that you are a medical student and the year you are in)
We will send out the acceptance letters within one week after the deadline and we'll publish the participants and the waiting list on this website!
Please confirm your Attendance within one week after you have received our acceptance (till 10.11.)
After this date, the waiting list will rise in rank.
Don't forget to tell us if you want to do a clerkship, too.
