Welcome to Austria and the AMSA!

This is the website of the Austrian Medical Students' Association which is a member of the IFMSA and the EMSA. We want to welcome you and give you some insight into our country and the AMSA-activities!

Coming to Austria

Austria has three public Medical Universities in Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna and one little private élitist Medical University in Salzburg. The AMSA is organzing exchange programmes such as practical exchange and research exchange, connecting our small country and the rest of the world. If you are a medical student and are interested in coming to Austria for working in a hospital or for performing a research exchange, you will find plenty of information using the left navigation bar.

Our activities in Austria

Our core projects are the Teddybear-Hospital in the beginning of summer, where children can discover and feel that doctors are no monsters at all, and our project on sexual education achtung°liebe (means: "attention°love"), where we perfom workshops in schools of 3-5 hours. The main idea of this project is that students of medicine and psychology will answer as senior-peers all questions the pupils rise about sex and love - with no shame but with proper liberal guiding intention. "Sex" is unfortunatly no subject at school and lack of knowledge is sometimes obvious.
Of course we are also very active on important dates such as World Aids Day, World Women's Day and Anti Tobacco Day. Popular are also our Movies & Medicine evenings, where a movie with medical background leads afterwards to open discussions between an invited professor of the university and the audience. The AMSA also participates in the EMSA Twinning Project, which aims to get medical students from different european countries in contact. This is real fun - you chose a twinning country and then all participants visit each other, share their homes as twins and spend their time together. And last but not least the AMSA hosts several partys throughout the year! So there is always a lot to do :-)
